7 myths Hollywood still believes

June 25, 2017 Leave a comment

There are no more original stories, that’s a given. It’s a truth we’ve come to accept among films, music, and television shows. Nonetheless, there are tropes that have become rather stale at this point, as we often see movies fall back on these tired old stereotypes. These cinematic myths have become so ingrained in our culture that they’re pretty much expected and ignored. In fact it’s hard to find a movie that doesn’t fall victim to them, especially summer blockbusters. Here are seven of the most common. Read more…

Star Wars vs. Star Trek

January 17, 2016 Leave a comment

Damn, it’s been a while since I posted anything. What was the last thing I ranted about? Something about a girl who could fly? Then again it’s not like I blog on a consistently frequent basis anyways. Life has this pesky tendency of, you know, happening. Anyways, a lot of shit has happened since then. Caitlyn Jenner won “Woman of the Year” some how, we lost David Bowie, it’s now 2016, and Donald Trump is still leading the polls disturbingly enough. Oh, and something else occurred too…

Whitewashed Hollywood

exodus-gods-and-kingsRidley Scott’s next time period epic is set to release this December. Exodus: Gods and Kings  will be following in Noah’s  footsteps, bringing another action packed, Biblical interpretation to the big screen. In this classic tale that chronicles a people’s journey from slavery, the Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale, will play the Israelite hero Moses; Alien badass Sigourney Weaver will play his adoptive mother Tuya; while Joel Edgerton, whom Star Wars fans may remember as a young Owen Lars, will play Ramesses II (or Rhamses). My idea for a found footage Spider-Man movie

October 8, 2013 Leave a comment

amazing-spider-manTill now we’ve seen several iterations of Spider-Man on the big screen with varying opinions on them. Ignoring the ridiculously hilarious adaptations from the 1970’s, Sam Raimi’s first and second attempts at the franchise tend to resonate more with its arguably faithful take on the character and minor changes and oversights here and there. Man of Steel and Transformers are the same movie

June 30, 2013 1 comment

LogosWith Man of Steel punching its way through theatres, it’s proven to be a polarizing reboot. Many have praised it be to the Superman movie we’ve all been waiting for, while others argue that it’s not a super hero movie, given that Supes does a lot of things on screen that he wouldn’t dream of doing in the comics. I on the other hand thoroughly enjoyed the film (not to mention it’s OST). The problem with action packed movies though, is after the adrenaline and excitement wear off, you begin to notice all the flaws and plot holes that are peppered throughout the narrative. One such thing is that Man of Steel is almost a mirror image of Michael Bay’s Transformers. Read more…

Men watch porn; women just read it.

September 20, 2012 Leave a comment

We’re all familiar with the idea of a married guy who must hide his trove of porn from the wife but keeps it stashed away for those rainy nights. Some men have become so proficient at hiding porn that, as Chris Rock once said, they’ve practically become Batman, securing it away in a secret cave beneath their house. Read more…
